Job Title: Welding Inspector – Transformer / Railway Projects

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Prepare, review, and maintain Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Welding Procedure Qualification Records (WPQR/PQR), and Welder Qualification Test (WQT) documents as per applicable standards.

• Prepare weld plans and weld maps based on customer specifications, engineering drawings, and project requirements.

• Prepare Stress Relieving (SR) cycle documentation as per customer specifications and project requirements.

• Support and coordinate certification audits for EN ISO 3834-2 and EN 15085-2.

• Review project-specific technical requirements and guide relevant functional teams on welding-related matters.

• Provide technical guidance and training to engineers, GETs, ITI apprentices, and welders on welding procedures, techniques, and quality requirements.

• Prepare and explain welding work instructions to ensure compliance with approved procedures and production targets.

• Train welders on new welding techniques, processes, and design changes.

• Monitor welder-wise performance, welding defects, and productivity, and arrange training to improve workmanship and efficiency.

• Verify that welders are qualified and approved for the applicable WPS before assigning welding activities.

• Ensure welding processes, consumables, and parameters comply with approved WPS requirements.

• Monitor preheating and inter-pass temperatures, wherever applicable, as per the approved welding procedure.

• Ensure proper inter-run cleaning and acceptable welding workmanship throughout the manufacturing process.

• Inspect weld joints at different stages of production and prepare welding inspection reports.

• Ensure weld joint traceability and compliance with project quality standards and customer specifications.

• Identify welding defects, troubleshoot welding-related problems, and implement corrective and preventive actions.

• Ensure welding equipment is properly maintained and relevant records are updated.

• Coordinate with Production, Quality, and Engineering teams to resolve welding-related issues and achieve project timelines.

• Ensure implementation of 5S, Environment, Health & Safety (EHS) standards, and safe welding practices at the workplace.

Required Skills:

• Knowledge of welding processes, welding inspection, and fabrication practices.

• Understanding of WPS, WPQR/PQR, WQT, weld maps, and welding documentation.

• Knowledge of welding defects, visual inspection, and corrective action techniques.

• Familiarity with welding consumables, welding parameters, preheating, and inter-pass temperature control.

• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, and customer specifications.

• Knowledge of welding quality standards and traceability requirements.

• Familiarity with EN ISO 3834-2 and EN 15085-2 standards will be preferred.

• Good communication, problem-solving, documentation, and coordination skills.

Preferred Qualification & Experience:

• Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related engineering discipline.

• Relevant experience in welding inspection, welding quality, or fabrication projects.

• Experience in Transformer Manufacturing or Railway Projects will be preferred.

• Practical knowledge of welding procedures, welder qualification, and quality audits will be an added advantage.
