3. Quality Manager
Experience Level: Mid-level (8+ years)
CTC: 9 to 12 LPA (Inclusive 10% performance linked bonus)
Job Purpose
To lead and manage the plant's quality function, ensuring products meet customer, regulatory, and internal specifications, while driving continuous improvement in processes, reducing defects/rework, and maintaining certifications (ISO 9001, IATF 16949 if applicable, or other relevant standards).
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Systems & Compliance
· Establish, implement, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) in line with ISO 9001 / relevant industry standards.
· Ensure compliance with customer-specific requirements, statutory, and regulatory standards (BIS, ASTM, EN, ASME, API, etc. as applicable).
· Lead internal, customer, and third-party audits; drive closure of non-conformances (NCs) and CAPAs.
2. Incoming, In-process & Final Inspection
· Oversee raw material inspection (steel billets, plates, coils, alloys, castings, forgings) against material test certificates (MTC) and specifications.
· Monitor in-process quality checks across melting, rolling, forging, fabrication, machining, welding, and heat treatment stages.
· Ensure final product inspection, dimensional checks, and testing (mechanical, chemical, NDT) before dispatch.
3. Testing & Metallurgical Lab Management
· Manage the quality/metallurgical lab — chemical composition analysis (spectrometer), mechanical testing (tensile, hardness, impact), and NDT (UT, RT, MPI, DPI).
· Ensure calibration of testing/measuring equipment as per NABL or equivalent standards.
4. Non-Conformance & Root Cause Analysis
· Investigate customer complaints, in-house rejections, and process deviations using RCA tools (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D).
· Drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) and monitor effectiveness.
5. Vendor & Supplier Quality
· Conduct supplier/vendor audits and qualify new vendors.
· Monitor incoming material quality trends and drive supplier improvement plans.
6. Continuous Improvement
· Lead Six Sigma / Kaizen / Lean initiatives to reduce defects, rework, and scrap.
· Drive cost of poor quality (COPQ) reduction initiatives.
· Benchmark quality KPIs and drive process capability improvements (Cpk/Ppk).
7. Documentation & Reporting
· Maintain quality records, inspection reports, test certificates, and traceability documentation.
· Prepare and present quality performance dashboards/MIS to management (defect rates, customer complaints, audit scores, first-pass yield).
8. Team Leadership
· Lead, train, and mentor the QA/QC team including inspectors, NDT technicians, and lab personnel.
· Foster a quality-first culture across production and engineering teams.
9. Customer Interface
· Handle customer quality audits, complaints, and approvals (PPAP/APQP if applicable to engineered products).
· Ensure timely submission of test certificates, inspection reports, and third-party inspection (TPI) coordination (e.g., Lloyd's, SGS, BV, TUV).
Key Skills & Competencies
· Strong knowledge of steel/metallurgical processes (melting, casting, rolling, forging, welding, heat treatment)
· Proficiency in quality tools: SPC, FMEA, 8D, RCA, MSA
· Familiarity with NDT methods and standards
· ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certification (preferred)
· Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills
· Working knowledge of ERP/QMS software
Qualifications & Experience
· Education: B.Tech/B.E. in Metallurgy, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering (M.Tech preferred)
· Experience: 8+ years in quality functions within steel/heavy engineering/foundry/forging industry, with at least 3 years in a managerial role
· Certifications (preferred): ISO 9001 Lead Auditor, Six Sigma Green/Black Belt, NDT Level II
