Planning Manager
Experience Level: Mid-level (8+ years)
CTC: 9 to 12 LPA (Inclusive 10% performance linked bonus)
Job purpose
To plan, schedule, and monitor fabrication shop-floor activities, ensuring on-time delivery of steel structures and equipment while optimizing resource utilization, material flow, and manpower allocation across projects.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop detailed production schedules for fabrication activities (cutting, fit-up, welding, machining, assembly) based on project timelines and client delivery dates
· Coordinate with design/engineering teams to align production plans with drawings, BOMs, and material specifications
· Plan and monitor material requirements (steel plates, sections, consumables) in coordination with procurement and stores to avoid production delays
· Allocate manpower, machinery, and shop-floor resources across concurrent projects to optimize throughput
· Track daily/weekly production progress against plan, identify bottlenecks, and take corrective action
· Prepare production schedules using tools like MS Project, Primavera, or ERP/MRP systems
· Coordinate with QA/QC to ensure production sequencing accounts for inspection and hold points
· Liaise with project managers to provide progress updates, flag risks, and realign schedules as needed
· Analyze production data to identify efficiency improvements and reduce cycle time/wastage
· Support capacity planning for new project bookings and workload forecasting
· Maintain production MIS reports, dashboards, and documentation for management review
· Ensure planning activities comply with safety and quality standards on the shop floor
· Required Qualifications & Experience
· Bachelor's degree/Diploma in Mechanical, Production, or Industrial Engineering
· 8+ years of experience in production planning within steel fabrication, heavy engineering, or metal manufacturing; with at least 3 years in a managerial role
· Hands-on experience with fabrication processes — cutting, welding, assembly sequencing
· Proficiency in planning/scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera P6, or ERP/MRP systems like SAP)
· Strong understanding of BOMs, routing sheets, and shop-floor documentation
· Working knowledge of lean manufacturing / production optimization principles is a plus
